Abstract of the paper "Bluecollar Movement in Alegrete and the presence of immigrants and foreigners between the years of 1897 and 1929."

The present paper approaches the Bluecollar Movement in Alegrete and the presence of immigrants and foreigners between the years of 1897 and 1929. The researches on the Labor Movement in Brazil concentrate exactly on this period (Old Republic).There are few studies that discuss the relationship between labor movement and immigration , in the same way that there is a lack of studies that approach the labor movement in Rio Grande do Sul, out of spaces as Rio Grande, Pelotas and Metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre. Therefore, the importance of expanding the researches on other areas, as, for instance, the border and Southwest campaign of Rio Grande do Sul. The problem of the research is to know the immigrants' paper in the formation of the labor movement. More specifically it is aimed to know the role of immigrants and foreigners in the formation of bluecollar movement in Alegrete. To explain the labor moviment and the immigrants' presence inside of the interpretative line of E. P Thompson, that privileges " to Do" of the class, and their experiences, it was used of international worker's " concept developed by Isabel Aparecida Bilhão, adopted to the field of the culture (identity). The most several sources were used for the obtaining of information, from primary to secondary. Of the secondary sources, they were important the Theories and Dissertations; of the primary sources, they were important the Reports of Municipal Intendancy of Alegrete, the Books of Registrations of Collection of taxes On Industry and Professions of Alegrete and the Press (newspapers of the time). The Dissertation was divided in three chapters: work, immigration and labor movement (investigation of the subject of the immigrants' presence in the formation of the manpower and in the labor movement in scale international, national and regional); Alegrete: scenery and job market and the Labor Movement in Alegrete: the immigrants' presence (1897 - 1929). The conclusion of the paper points out that, in the composition of direction of bluecollar movement in Alegrete, the internationalist bluecollar cultural identity had more probability of assimilation between the immigrants and foreigners descendants. It was possible to notice that the formation of bluecollar movement in Alegrete occurred mainly from the “ethnical mixture” with strong evidences of the importance of the familiar relationships among the members of the associations directions
